The first month of spring has proved to be a bumper month for Matt Laurie Racing with 6 wins from 25 starts equating to a 24% strike rate.

Amongst those was another metropolitan win by Alfa Oro, blitzing his rivals at Moonee Valley over 955m. It was the 5yo gelding’s fifth win in succession (6 in total) with Ben Melham on board on all occasions.

Bendigo Guineas winner Riddle Me That chalked up another stakes win, with a gusty victory in the $175k Paris Lane Stakes (LR) over 1400m at Flemington in early October ridden by Daniel Stackhouse. The son of Deep Field relished a quiet ride, storming through the field over the last 400m. Once again rider consistency played a part with Daniel Stackhouse riding Riddle Me That on all four of his super wins.

Moonee Valley was the location of our latest stakes success with exciting 3yo colt Portland Sky - also by Deep Field - winning the $200k Group 3 PFD Red Anchor Stakes over 1200m, ridden beautifully by Ben Melham. Barrier 1 proved to be no challenge for the outstanding colt; he jumped well to lead comfortably on the rails and was subsequently too strong for his rivals - even on the soft 7 track.

Portland Sky was selected and purchased by Matt at the Perth Magic Millions yearling sales in February 2019 for a very reasonable $85k. He's already repaid that and more in just 4 starts. We think this colt may have a very bright future ahead.
