Strykinglee Early Favourite to make it Three from Three

Unbeaten filly Strykinglee heads to town for her first city assignment on Saturday when she lines up against the fillies over 1000m at Moonee Valley. The promising daughter of Styrker was a dominant five-length winner on debut in a Cranbourne maiden on May 13 before beating older mares while carrying 60kg in Benchmark 64 grade at Ballarat on June 1.

Strykinglee opened as a $4.20 chance to remain unbeaten in the $80,000 sprint but her trainer Matt Laurie said punters should not assume the three-year-old will run at Moonee Valley.

"I haven't decided whether she will run yet to be honest, however it does look a nice option for her off the back of those two impressive wins” Laurie said.

"There is a three-year-old fillies' race at Caulfield at the start of July over 1100(m) and that might be an option for her.

"We gave her a freshen between runs and I just want to work out what sort of a run she will have and how tough she will have it (at Moonee Valley) and make a decision from there.”

Laurie said he considered giving the daughter of Stryker a break after the Ballarat run but decided to keep going with Strykinglee to give her the opportunity to earn as much prizemoney as she could against her own age.

Strykinglee has drawn barrier eight in a likely field of 14 at Moonee Valley but Laurie said he needed to assess the likelihood of the filly having a hard run on the tricky circuit.

"If she's going to have a really tough run there (Moonee Valley), I'll think about waiting (until Caulfield),” Laurie said.

"If it had been any other time of the year other than late in her three-year-old year, then you perhaps would have given her a nice little break.”

Laurie said Strykinglee would be in good order for her attempt at a hat trick of wins if he decides to run the promising filly at Moonee Valley.

"She's a fairly lightly-framed filly but she had a good gallop on Tuesday and I was happy with her but she did have a little blow,” Laurie said.

Luke Currie will ride Strykinglee if she runs at Moonee Valley.
