EXCESSABEEL; Starting To Shine

Five year old Savabeel mare EXCESSABEEL has now won an impressive 6 races in the past 10 months for her happy (and very patient) connections; an extraordinary feat considering she had a hairline fracture of the pelvis just 2 years ago.

Matt gave the then 3yo filly a 14 month spell to heal, anticipating that the class she displayed early on could only be more developed as an older horse. That is, if she could make a full recovery.

Now, after returning to race in March 2018, this forward running staying mare has had 16 starts with 6 wins (1600m - 2200m), 1 second placing and 3 fourths, winning over $113k for her owners. Not to mention the great thrills she has provided with her bold running style.

Interestingly Excessabeel's two most recent wins have both been at Morphettville, less than 4 weeks apart with an unlucky 4th placing at Flemington in between. We think she might truly enjoy the long float trips!

Another noteworthy fact is that 5 of Excessabeel's 6 wins, have been with female jockeys. She has shown a great affinity with Chelsea MacFarlane who has won three races on her, with South Australian jockey Raquel Clark and Victorian apprentice Chelsea Hall both winning on her at Morphettville.
Watch the closing stages of her most recent win at Morphettville here:

There is no doubt Excessabeel is made of "tough stuff"; not only is she resilient but she has shown that she has an enormous heart and a natural will to win.

With these qualities in hand, we expect that she will be a great prospect as a broodmare when the time comes for her to visit the breeding barn.

But not just yet - Excessabeel is only just getting started on the racetrack!
