Yet another super year has closed for Matt Laurie Racing with 49 wins & 88 placings.

Undoubtedly the highlight of the year was the emergence of 3yo colt Portland Sky (by Deep Field) as a genuine sprinting star. Following Group 3 victories over 1200m in the Red Anchor Stakes at The Valley and Manfred Stakes at Caulfield, Portland Sky and jockey Teo Nugent recorded an incredible victory in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate, dead-heating with 4yo WA mare Celebrity Queen.

It took a painstaking 4 minutes before the judges declared that they could not split the two, resulting in a memorable first Group 1 win for apprentice jockey Teo Nugent in what was his first ride at the highest level.

Portland Sky followed this with a gallant 2nd in the WFA William Reid Stakes (G1) at Moonee Valley, cementing his position as one of Australia's premier sprinters.

Earlier in the racing year in September 2020, Alfa Oro continued his winning ways with a fifth consecutive victory having scored 4 successive wins to June 2020. Alfa Oro has since been retired and he continues to reside at Carringbush Park.

Riddle Me That - also by Deep Field - followed his Bendigo Guineas victory in March 2020 with another stakes win, taking out the Paris Lane Stakes (LR) over 1400m at Flemington in October ridden by Dan Stackhouse.

Following a strong win at Moonee Valley over 1200m, 3yo filly Malicorne (by Akeed Mofeed) had two 2nd placings in stakes races; the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield and the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1400m.
