The week of a lifetime with another two Group 1 wins with Vinrock winning the ATC Inglis Sires' and Treasurethe Moment winning the Australian Oaks

Matt Laurie's long term plan for two of his best gallopers came to fruition in Sydney with 2yo colt Vinrock winning the Group 1 Inglis Sires' over 1400m at Randwick followed a week later with stable champion filly Treasurethe Moment continuing her record breaking form, winning the Group 1 Australian Oaks, her eighth consecutive win and her third career Group 1.

Vinrock's win was outstanding, becoming the first two year old Group 1 winner for boom stallion I Am Invincible.

Ridden by Mark Zahra, jumping from barrier one saw him settle one back on the rails. Although the inside was considered to be worse ground, he was powerful over the closing stages to hold off fast finishing back-markers to win his first Group 1 race from just his third start.

Selected by Matt at the Inglis Premier sales in 2024 and purchased for $300,000, the I Am Invincible colt is living up to the highest of expectations, now unbeaten from three starts. He is the first horse to win the Melbourne/Sydney Sires' double in a staggering 44 years since Full On Aces in 1981.

After the win Matt was was elated. "It's hard to get the words out at the moment. To pick out a colt at the sales and be here winning a Group 1 three starts later is mind blowing. I found him at premier sales and I thought he was a lovely looking horse - I valued him at a lot higher and he passed in and I managed to buy him post sale."

Jockey Mark Zahra came to Sydney a week earlier to trial the 2yo colt. "His mindset for a Vinnie colt is just beautiful. You can do anything with him. I was happy to come and trial him (a week earlier) because and I just wanted him to be behind (in running). I knew Gai would have one or two in it and he might not be able to lead. He was good and handled it really well and it worked out well today. I believed the fence was no good and he just had to get off a couple. He was strong late."

Vinrock's succession of wins has been a joyful venture for the ownership group, which consists of a number of long term Matt Laurie Racing owners, a couple of seasoned horse owners that had just joined our stable buying into Vinrock and also a first-time racehorse owner.

Just one week later, Treasurethe Moment capped off her remarkable 3yo year, winning the time honoured classic Australian Oaks over 2400m. Her rivals tried valiantly to beat her, setting a lacklustre pace, resulting in the leaders kicking away strongly on the turn. For a few heart stopping moments, it appeared that her incredible winning streak would end however we saw her astonishing ability and will to win emerge, taking her to a third Group 1 victory.

She was extraordinary and so incredibly tough.

For Matt, it was a hard watch. "I was pretty nervous about today. Small field - often they can be a bit messy. It was slow to watch, she didn't have a great deal of cover and was on the wrong lead and then they all came off the turn and she was under siege. We haven't seen that for a while and to see her dig deep in the concluding stages; it was an incredible effort. I couldn't be prouder of the horse and the team that helped me get her to this point."

"Her work has been incredible; the past month has been unbelievable. She's got incredible heart."

Damian Lane has ridden her for six of her past eight wins and was impressed by her tenacity. "She's a beauty. She's a pleasure to ride - she got me out of a sticky spot at the top of the straight. The leader sprinted really well, I probably gave it a bit too much leeway and had a bit of ground to make up. She knuckled down when it counted. The real good, special horses just find a way."

Treasurethe Moment too was history making, being the first filly since Serenade Rose in 2006 to win the VRC/ATC Oaks double in addition to the Wakeful, Angus Armanasco and Vinery Stakes.

For Treasure, add the Kewney Stakes to that extraordinary victory list; an amazing six consecutive stakes wins for the the Alabama Express filly.

Overall, the remarkable past 12 days in Sydney resulting in three Group 1 wins from 3 starts, was largely due to Matt and fiancé Kate Brideoake who spent 4 weeks away from family in Melbourne, dedicating their time and expertise in providing these two quality horses their best chance at victory.

Bravo to a brilliant training effort by both; they make an awesome team!
