Group 2 double with brilliant colt Vinrock and stable star Treasurethe Moment saluting at Flemington

Saddling two Group 2 favourites on the same day at Flemington is in itself a fair achievement; to have them both win by a significant margin was a career highlight for Matt Laurie and his team.

Granted, two-year-old colt Vinrock was only having his second career start however such was the class in which he won his first start at Pakenham over 1200m, he was expected to step up accordingly to the 1400m Group 2 Sires’ Produce.

The son of I Am Invincible did not disappoint, leading from the jump and cruising away to a 2 length win. It was a powerful display of a possible future star.

Jockey Mark Zahra was full of praise for Vinrock. “He’s just a dream to ride. He went to the front, relaxed and quickened when I asked him. They’ve done a good job”. Zahra was also impressed by Matt’s plan for Vinrock. “He actually had this race picked out before he even started, so he’s obviously a very good judge of a horse”.

Zahra is correct; Matt selected and purchased the precocious I Am Invincible x Girl Gone Rockin’ colt at the 2024 Melbourne Inglis Premier sale for $300,000. Vinrock now heads to Sydney to tackle the Gr1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes and Gr1 Champagne Stakes, both over 1600m.

Three-year-old Yulong Investments owned and bred Alabama Express filly Treasurethe Moment continued her exceptional run of wins, taking her tally to six in a row (and her seventh win overall) with a crushing 2.25 length win in the Gr2 Kewney Stakes over a mile.

Following her easy win two weeks earlier in the Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1400m, Damian Lane again partnered with her and the pair produced their trademark finish, skipping away over the closing stages. “Matt has turned her out in great order again, she’s obviously come on a little bit from that first up run. I was always confident in the run and she won accordingly” Lane said post race. “We know that she really enjoys 2000m and she’ll get that next start in a Group 1 and hopefully the Oaks after that”.

Lane was referring to the Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes to be run at Rosehill over 2000m in three week’s time, where she will meet the country’s best staying fillies.

Matt was thrilled and also relieved with the effort of his marvelous filly. “The Kewney was going to be a great race for her second up. Damian was able to slot her in perfectly and the way she travels up; she just takes herself there, and you know she’s just got so much under the bonnet. This is clearly the best horse we’ve ever had. She’s next level”.

Both Treasurethe Moment and Vinrock will head to Sydney in a week's time to prepare for their next exciting challenge. Go well team!
